Ipecacuanha (Ipecac root)

Source: Root of Carapichea ipecacuanha; family Rubiaceae. Plant kingdom.

Key notes: Chief action is on the ramifications of the pneumogastric nerve, producing spasmodic irritation in chest and stomach; persistent nausea and vomiting with a clean tongue form the chief guiding symptoms; bright red haemorrhages; rattling in chest; complaints from indigestible food, raisins, cakes, pork; often useful after Arsenicum and Cuprum.

Head: Bones of skull feel crushed or bruised; pain extends to teeth and root of tongue.

Stomach: Constant nausea and vomiting with pale, twitching face; vomits food, bile, blood, mucus; stomach feels relaxed, as if hanging down; hiccough; tongue clean.

Abdomen: Amoebic dysentery with tenesmus; while straining, pain so great that it nauseates; little thirst.

Stool: Pitch-like, green as grass, frothy like fermented yeast; slimy, bloody, with colic and nausea.

Female: Uterine haemorrhage, profuse, bright, gushing, with nausea; vomiting during pregnancy; pain from navel to uterus; menses too early and too profuse.

Respiratory: Dyspnoea; constant constriction in chest; asthma; yearly attacks of difficult shortness of breathing; continued sneezing; coryza; wheezing cough; violent, incessant cough with every breath; chest seems full of phlegm but does not yield to coughing; bubbling rales; suffocative cough — child becomes stiff and blue in the face; whooping cough with nosebleed and bleeding from mouth; bleeding from lungs with nausea; croup.

نظامِ تنفس: سانس کی دشواری؛ سینے میں مسلسل تنگی؛ دمہ؛ سالانہ سانس کی تنگی کے دورے؛ مسلسل چھینکیں؛ زکام؛ سیٹی والی کھانسی؛ ہر سانس کے ساتھ شدید مسلسل کھانسی؛ سینہ بلغم سے بھرا مگر کھانسی سے نہ نکلے؛ بلبلے والی آوازیں؛ دم گھونٹنے والی کھانسی — بچہ اکڑ کر نیلا ہو جائے؛ نکسیر اور منہ سے خون کے ساتھ کالی کھانسی؛ متلی کے ساتھ پھیپھڑوں سے خون؛ کروپ۔

Fever: Intermittent fever, irregular cases after quinine; slightest chill with much heat, nausea, vomiting and dyspnoea; relapses from improper eating.

بخار: وقفے وقفے کا بخار، کونین کے بعد بے قاعدہ صورتیں؛ ہلکی کپکپی کے ساتھ زیادہ حرارت، متلی، قے اور سانس کی تنگی؛ غلط کھانے سے دوبارہ بیماری۔

Modalities: Worse: periodically, from veal, moist warm wind, lying down.
